Read ArticleYour GPA is a weighted average of your course grades based on credit hours. Our calculator uses the standard 4.0 scale most U.S. schools follow, so you can quickly see where you stand and what it takes to reach your target.
Each letter grade converts to a grade point value. For example, an A is typically 4.0, a B is 3.0, and so on. Some schools use plus/minus values like 3.7 or 3.3.
Multiply each course’s grade points by its credit hours to get quality points. This ensures higher‑credit courses have more impact on your final GPA.
Add all quality points together, then divide by total credit hours. The result is your GPA, which you can track each term or across your entire academic history.
If your school uses a weighted GPA, honors or AP courses may carry extra points. You can account for that by selecting the correct grade value in the calculator. For unweighted GPAs, every course uses the same 4.0 scale regardless of difficulty.
Not sure which scale your school uses? Start with the standard 4.0 scale and compare your result with your transcript. If they differ, try the weighted GPA calculator to match your school’s policy.
